Bathroom Trends Taking Australia by Storm
One of the biggest renovations in your home is always the bathroom. Because space is usually limited, as much practicality is stuffed into the space that you have. No matter how you renovate your bathroom, the idea is to make one of the most used spaces in your home as comfortable to use as possible. And if you can stretch your space a little, you might even be able to create a retreat in itself. One of the biggest things with bathrooms is using quality fixtures that will last decades, and also utilising renovation trends that will do the same. The biggest trend in bathroom renovation right now is timelessness, and for the value to last, it should still look relevant in ten years to the rest of your home. In Australia, we value quality, style and practical products with affordable price tags, and here are some of the best new trends that will give your bathroom a timeless makeover. Bathroom Finishes The most common renovation aspects currently being used are organic or natural finishes like stone and timber. Bathroom colour schemes are becoming darker, richer, warmer, and moody with deep greys, navy, black and charcoal tiles and feature walls matched with brass, bronze and rose-gold fixtures. Matte surfaces are becoming extremely popular, however combining matte with high gloss is still common. Sand stone, raw concrete and marble are highly used now, and timber trims like oak, bamboo and darker timbers set the room’s elegance. Matt black fixtures have all but taken over the market in new renovations, and they look amazing with timber and stone backdrops. Bathroom Vanities Wall hung vanities are a popular trend and delivers a clean, sleek and modern look perfect for minimalist spaces. Timber Surfaces Custom built timber vanities, cabinets, benchtops and mirrors are one of the best ways to build a unique bathroom. This trend is keeping carpenters across the country very busy right now, and it adds a certain element of class to your bathroom. Bathroom Basins Basins are no longer just simple and porcelain. One trend that has taken off this year is basins made of everything from stone and concrete to bamboo and carved granite. Black basins are also popular. Upsized tiles A definite emerging preference is large-format tiling, however large-format tiles and slabs, require strong substrate, which is costly. Lighting Lighting plays a key role in modern renovations, and dimmable lights, sensor lights, LED strips under joinery, coloured mood lighting, are all popular items. Practicality is the means to an end with lighting however, so prominent work lights where they are needed are important. By Shane Downey www.angelbluemarketing.com The ultimate guide to kitchen cabinets
By Shane Downey www.angelbluemarketing.com No matter how small or large your kitchen is, to how strange the layout might be, with great planning and a great team to help you achieve your goals, you could be well on your way to a practical and beautiful kitchen within weeks. Jam-packed benchtops and impractical storage decisions will soon be a distant memory by following a few simple rules for your kitchen makeover. Here are a few of the ways to create the right style for your home, based on your space, and new and innovative kitchen cabinets. LAYOUT Working out the new layout of your kitchen is the first crucial step. If your kitchen is small, you should use straight line layouts. If you do have a bit more space to play with however, L-shaped kitchens can be practical and are great for the entertainers. Work around your large well-used items, like your fridge, oven and dishwasher, and consider where each item will be the most useful. Use their positions as the basis for your cabinet layout. A good rule to live by when adding these large items to your layout, is to keep them at least 2 metres apart from each other to reduce high traffic use chaos. STORAGE OPTIONS Make a list of what you like about your current kitchen and what you don’t like. If something works well, you might like to keep the option there after the renovation, maybe just spruced up a bit. An example would be a servery. Serveries were always popular kitchen additions and are even more popular than ever now. They are a practical addition to your kitchen, so if you have one you might want to add modern flair to it, or alter the size or style of it. If your current pantry location or style really works, if you can’t discover any better solutions, you might like to keep it as is. There are a great range of fantastic customised appliance cabinets available these days for simple solutions to kitchen storage. These types of cabinets make your kitchen look clean and tidy, while remaining completely practical. Well-planned cabinetry can conceal your bench clutter and make your kitchen seem much larger than it is. DOORS AND DRAWERS Modern kitchens combine both drawers for lower-level cabinets and doors for higher cabinets. It’s important to use high quality products for your doors and especially your drawers, because cheap items will be both hard to replace, and damage easily. If you are after a sleek clean feel for your kitchen, push-to-open runners on your drawers will deliver clean lines, by remaining handle-free. Although your handles can really make a kitchen stand out (either good or bad) so make sure you choose a style you will be happy with for the life of your kitchen. FINISH The choices are endless when it comes to the finish of your kitchen. Popular choices today range from raw or recycled timbers, bare concrete benchtops, frosted or panelled glass doors, high-resistance thermoformed UV resistant tops and textured or polished timber flooring. Practicality seems to be the main thought that goes into a kitchen renovation, but remaining practical while working to a budget and having an amazing end product to work with is difficult. By Shane Downey www.angelbluemarketing.com If you want to extend your outdoor area, there’s nothing that looks as good on your deck as natural timber. There are so many different types of timbers to choose from when it comes to a good-looking deck, and no matter what your budget is, there is timber to match. Here are some of the most popular options we use in Brisbane's Bayside and South-East. Treated pine Treated pine is the low-budget option, but even though it’s a low-budget, it doesn’t mean it’s not good quality. You can stain, paint or oil it to suit your style, and we can help you choose the right type of rated pine for your posts, joists and deck. Treated pine really is a good option because it is so versatile and cheap. Jarrah Jarrah is usually more expensive than other decking timbers, but it’s colour ranges from reds to light and dark browns means it looks very high end. The best way to preserve the high-end jarrah timber decking is by regular oiling. If you aren’t that into regular maintenance of your deck, maybe you should look at stain or varnish coating. Blackbutt Blackbutt has a beautiful pale brown colour and is usually consistently coloured. Blackbutt can be stained and if left unsealed, it can crack. It’s another high maintenance timber, but the results are amazing. Stringybark Stringybark is available in three colour options: red, white and yellow and red. White stringybark is more suited for indoor use, because it isn’t as durable, so yellow and red Stringybark is better for decking. Red Stringybark is more expensive, and quite hard to find, but if you are looking for some unique timber for your deck, this is the one for you. Spotted Gum Spotted gum has more colour variations than Blackbutt, extending from pale to chocolate browns. It’s dense and robust and shrinks less than other timbers. Ironbark If you’re looking for a deck that will withstand the Apocalypse, Ironbark is what you need. It’s one of the most durable timbers on the planet and its namesake stands true because of its weight and highly dense body. It’s a beautiful timber, and its colours range from deep red to pale brown. Because Ironbark is so durable, it makes for a great pool decking as well. If you need help deciding what timber to use for your deck, contact LimeTree Constructions today for some advice. |
